Scope?

[edit]

Would Timothy McVey or the Unabomber belong here? Or in a related template? How about the Fenians? Symbionese Liberation Army? Black Panthers? Klu Klux Klan? Geo Swan (talk) 21:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As happened with {{CanadianTerrorism}}, I had two separate templates for WoT/non-WoT, and ended up merging them. That may not be the case here, but definitely start as a separate template. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 22:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Impending Undo

[edit]

I have made substantial improvement to this template (nearly tripling its lenngth), by bringing it into conformity with its actual scope of "American Terrorism," as opposed to its previous status as a device being used in a non-NPOV manner to showcase only post-9/11/01 Islamist terrorism. Someone has, apparently, undone all my work, without explanation, and in my opinion, without any reasonable basis for having done so. I now intended to restore my work. KevinOKeeffe (talk) 02:48, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correction: I apparently missed the explanation which was given ie., that the person had moved my work into a new location - Template:AmericanDomesticTerrorism. I suppose that is not unreasonable, especially in light of this Template having been renamed in order to make it an explictly "War on Terror" template. However, Islamist terrorism in the United States still constitutes "domestic terrorism" in my book, so much of the material located at this template will also momentarily be duplicated on Template:AmericanDomesticTerrorism. No, we avoid unqualifiedly calling people terrorists

[edit]

But this is not a template of people alleged to be militant about the war on terror. That list would include the populations of entire provinces. It is about people alleged to be terrorists. Even under the bizarrely politically correct regime currently being enforced on Wikipedia, there's no problem with saying that somebody has been alleged to be a terrorist. RayTalk 23:20, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AVOID is quite clear there is something wrong with the term "terrorist" in all but the narrowest definitions. A doctor who agreed to treat wounded Iraqis and was charged with terrorism may be called an "alleged militant", but not an "alleged terrorist". Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 17:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
then let's find some wording that is truthful. These people are not "alleged militants." They are not alleged to be militant. Do you have any suggestions? RayTalk 20:45, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sharif Mobley

[edit]

(caveat: I was directed to post here, I'm not sure this is the correct topic location)

Please help me with the Special section: Alleged militants in the War on Terror who have lived in United States

At the bottom of the Sharif Mobley and other pages is a special section on the War on Terror. If you open this box up it lists a number of categories. One of them relates to al-Qaeda. That list contains the name Sharif Mobley.

I would like to request several changes to that placement.

  • Complete removal of his name from the list.
The Yemen Government dropped all charges of "terrorism/terrorist activity" and there are no further legal proceedings against him.
Maintaining his name on that list without any legal basis is biased.

or

  • Creating a new subset: Currently held without charge.
Sharif Mobley disappeared from the Yemen court systems in Feb 27, 2014 and his held in an unknown location.

Can someone assist in directing this to the people maintaining that section? KBR (talk) 02:00, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sharif Mobley should not be included in the section on al-Qaeda / al-Jihad /Islamic Jihad . There are no pending legal cases against him in Yemen. All charges of "terrorism" were dropped by the Yemen Government at the time.
Mobley is held in a "secret military prison" in Sana'a. The US State Department has confirmed that they are aware of his location but cannot officially tell his legal counsel or his family his whereabouts.
I will add the following new category section: Held in Unknown Location: Sharif Mobley KBR (talk) 03:10, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
